We Come Now Assembled

A Gathering Song

(Sing to tune "Sent Forth by God's Blessing")

The Ash Grove

1.         We come now assembled, we sing as we tremble

approaching the future with glad anxious hearts.

We mark our beginning with praise and thanksgiving,

alive in the hope we may each play a part.

            New tasks loom before us to challenge, restore us;

aglow with the spirit we answer God's call:

As sisters and brothers to love one another,

to live by the Word which is grace to us all.

2.         The days stretch before us as voices implore us

to reach out our hands with the touch of God's grace.

A world sleeps in hunger, a long painful slumber,

awaiting God's servants in this time and place.

When will we awaken to neighbors forsaken

and answer their calls crying out in the night?

For in them we meet him, and there we shall greet him,

this Jesus we name as the Christ and our Light.

3.         Our God who has promised to wander among us

yet rules all the heavens, the sun and the stars.

The world God embraces, the vast empty spaces,

proclaim the Divine who is both near and far.

We sing thus our praises, each voice clearly raises

an anthem in wonder as God reigns above.

So let this beginning, alive with thanksgiving

unite us in service, in peace, hope, and love.
